We’re itching to shout #PinoyPride all over again.

Filipino artist Nikko Pelaez just earned the top nod from the Vans Asia Custom Culture Competition with his Vans Slip-On ‘Skater God’ design.

Nikko bested over 10,000 submissions from across Asia to take home the $2,000 grand prize plus bragging rights of having his custom kicks produced and sold at Asia Vans stores this 2018.

The American brand reveals the inspiration behind Nikko’s artwork:

‘At first glance, Pelaez’s illustration looks like angry Zeus-like gods casting down fire and brimstone onto humanity.

But, the real revelation behind his work is to show us that we are our own gods, masters of our own destiny, skaters who choose their our own path to ride.

The blazing fire represents all of life’s obstacles to overcome and the black and white motif symbolizes the Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang – the necessity for balance and harmony in life.’

No word yet on when the set will drop, so stay tuned.
